BA degree from
College of St. Scholastica, 1979; MS Degree from University of South
Dakota, 1992; Retired USAFR Major.
Owner of North Shore
Log & Timber Frame Homes, Inc., and in business since 1992.
Member of the Great
Lakes Log Crafters Association since 1993.
My hobby interests started in the
1970's when I learned log building, timber framing, wooden boat
building, and cabinetry. I opened doors for business when I left
active duty with the Air Force in 1992 and worked primarily with
commercial log building projects. A business background has been
useful for doing log home industry research/analysis for the GLLCA and
examining best business practices. As Chair of the association
Business Committee I’m writing our association business plan,
assisting with creation of the strategic plan, website development and
marketing. Personal goals are to improve member benefits regarding
log yard efficiency, business practices, product marketing, and
preserving the social atmosphere we like about this association for
exchanging craft ideas. |

Tim Bullock is the
President of Bullock & Company Log Homes in New Lowell, Ontario and
technical advisor for his wife’s company Tamarack Log and Timber Homes
Inc., located in Jane Lew, WV. Tim was a sawmill drive designer for a
company in BC until the idea of building log homes came to the fore
when reading B. Allan Mackie’s book.
Not content with
just building, Tim has also been designing Log Homes for the past 30
years resulting in many outstanding examples featured in magazines
such as architectural Digest, Log Home Living and Log Homes
Illustrated. It is a passion that cannot be denied and, thankfully,
clients have allowed Tim to explore the limits of Log Home Building of
which there are none. Anything is possible just as dreams are
limitless.
Tim’s involvement
with GLLCA started in 2005 where he served on the Membership Committee
resulting in a 20% increase in members and will serve in this capacity
as a Director for the current term. |

I became interested
in log building after visiting Anderson Log Homes while vacationing
near Leech Lake, Minnesota. I enrolled in the Great Lakes Log Building
School. Upon returning to Iowa, I built my first building while
continuing a farming operation in southwestern Iowa. I’m continuing to
build along with pursing other business interests.
I feel the knowledge
and contacts I have gained through the GLLCA have been invaluable to
my ability to progress in the log building business. I would hope to
contribute to the association in my upcoming term as director to pass
along some of the knowledge and friendships I have gained as a member.
I also think it will be important to grow the membership by adding new
members, along with an added emphasis on retaining present members,
plus having past members rejoin to use their experience to move GLLCA
forward.
On a personal note,
my wife, Julie, and I have 2 sons; Luke 16 and Jake 13. I received a
BS in agricultural from Iowa State University and presently hold a
position on the board of directors of West Central Coop, a local
agricultural entity, with an emphasis on bio-diesel production. |

Thank you for asking
me to serve on the board of the Great Lakes Log Crafters. I am
honored by this and plan on serving to the best of my abilities.
We are all
competitors in one fashion or another; however, we are first members
of a great association that can help us all. My goal as a member
first and a board member second is to unite us all in the preservation
and growth of our industry. I hope to do this through marketing
efforts that will preserve the art of our craft. I plan to provide
information that will help us to make important decisions and to
monitor the outside influences that will affect our businesses. In
doing this I hope to identify and provide opportunities that we can
use to grow our business. This I hope will make us as good as the
best and better than the rest. Thank you again.

further my knowledge, I attended Mackie's School of Lob Building
(1981) in British Columbia. I attend the annual meetings of the

Hi:
I am Kay Sellman the Business Manager for
the Great Lakes Log Crafters Association. I am sure you all know my
husband, Duane Sellman, a charter member of the Association. I
volunteered to help out the Association in 2001 and have helped with
setting up conferences, newsletters, maintaining professional and
associate membership records, general correspondence and most recently
setting up the GLLCA website. Duties connected with the website
include working with our website designer to maintain the professional
builders list, forward inquiries received on the website for log home
builders to our professional members and answering general requests
for information. I also send out our professional membership list to
the many magazine inquires we have been receiving due to advertising
in the Log Home Illustrated and Log Home Living
Magazines.
I also coordinate
financial reports with our treasurer, Steve Greer.
On a personal note, I have worked for a
large mechanical contractor for 27 years and I really like my job. I
enjoy cooking, being with friends and relatives and watching Duane
create beautiful log homes. My hobby is taking my little Pomeranian
to agility trails. She is my little champion with 8 blue ribbons in
one year. I enjoy the outside while snowmobiling and camping.
It is my goal to help make the Great
Lakes Log Crafters Association a success and if anyone has any ideas
and suggestions, please contact me at (651) 464-6506 or e-mail me at
info@gllca.org. |
